Finding Time to Read: Small Habits That Add Up

Keep a book where your hands already are

Most reading happens by accident: on the bus, in a waiting room, in the ten minutes before dinner. Keep a book in your bag and another by the couch, and those minutes become pages.

Pair reading with something you already do

Habits stick when they ride on existing ones. Read a chapter with your morning coffee, or a few pages before you turn out the light. The routine matters more than the length.

Let yourself stop

Not every book is the right book right now. If one has stalled for weeks, put it back on the shelf and start something you are excited about. Reading more often starts with wanting to pick the book up.

Track it lightly

A simple list of what you finish, with one line about each, is encouraging to look back on. If you enjoy that, our guide to keeping a reading journal has a few more ideas.
