Starting a Reading Journal

Why bother

We forget most of what we read surprisingly quickly. Writing a few lines when you finish a book, or even when you put it down for the day, helps the parts that mattered stay with you.

What to write

Keep it simple so you keep doing it:

  1. The title, the author and the date you finished.
  2. One sentence on what the book was about.
  3. One thing you want to remember: a line, an idea or a character.
  4. Whether you would recommend it, and to whom.

Make it yours

Some readers paste in a photo of the cover, others copy out favorite passages or keep a running list of books they want to read next. There is no wrong way, as long as you enjoy coming back to it.
